Openwind is designed with the philosophy that time is more valuable than computer hardware. To maximize speed, Openwind makes extensive use of multi-threading and keeps everything in memory, and therefore works best with multi-core workstations with large amounts of RAM.
The recommended requirements for Openwind are as follows:
•CPU: a single Intel i7 or one or more Xeons. Recent tests of the OCOE on an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X similar or better performance per thread and clock cycle as an Intel Xeon.
•Memory: 8GB RAM but much more may be needed depending on the user’s ambitions. We recommend 64GB to 256GB for desktop use and 32GB for mobile PCs.
•Graphics: no specific requirement but Openwind is developed and tested on nVidia graphics cards and makes use of 2D OpenGL hardware acceleration.
•Monitors: two or more high-resolution (at least 1920x1080) monitors
•Operating system: Openwind will run on Windows XP 32-bit and Ubuntu Linux 32-bit but a 64-bit operating system (e.g., Windows 7/8/10 64-bit or Ubuntu Linux 64-bit) is strongly recommended
