Users may go to the Sector Management tab to enable directional curtailment for this Site-Layer. With directional curtailment enabled, they can choose to manually determine the strategy by using the Edit Attributes tab or allow Openwind to automatically determine the curtailment strategy based on the distance between adjacent turbines below which curtailment is triggered and, optionally, the wind speeds between which curtailment is triggered. When this option is checked the pattern of curtailment can change for each wind speed and direction depending on whether a given turbine has another turbine upwind, within the specified distance, that is currently operating (i.e. not curtailed).

Automatic sector management is useful in allowing the optimiser to determine whether it is worth placing turbines closer together even when this triggers curtailment from certain directions.

Create WSM strategy checkbox means that this layer will have a WSM created as part of the functionality described in Wind Sector Management (WSM) Strategy Creation

The Sector Management tab applies to the Site-Layer as a whole and overrides any settings in the Edit Attributes tab.

The Edit Attributes Grid enables users to specify the curtailment strategy for each individual turbine. Figure 49 shows that turbine 4 is curtailed between 300 and 340 degrees from grid north for wind speeds above 22m/s and below 25m/s.

It is possible to edit a limited set of properties of a group of turbines by pressing the drag-box button in the toolbar and holding the left mouse button whilst dragging a box from top left to bottom right to enclose the desired turbines of the currently selected site-layer. As can be seen from figure 51 turbine types can be changed and turbines can be deleted or fixed.
